Alessandro Keegan American, b. 1980

Keegan’s recent work demonstrates a notable evolution in both palette and form. While his compositions continue to feature biomorphic orbs and gem-like spheres, the tonal range has shifted toward a darker and dramatic register, departing from the brightly colored, minimal backgrounds characteristic of his earlier pieces. Subtle but vivid accents of luminous blues and reds still persist within each painting, drawing the viewer’s eye and creating points of visual intensity.

The paintings showcase Keegan’s technical mastery of his medium. Each work is executed entirely by hand. The paintings feature an airbrush-like quality with seamless gradients and delicately diffused edges. The resulting surfaces possess a soft, almost atmospheric quality. Collectively, these enigmatic and otherworldly landscapes invite the viewer into imagined realms, evoking the sensation of a journey to an unfamiliar, perhaps extraterrestrial, environment.

Alessandro Keegan (b. 1980) is a visual artist with an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MA in art history from Brooklyn College. His paintings explore forms between science, nature, technology, and mysticism. He has exhibited internationally, and his work has been featured in major publications. In 2025, he appeared on the cover of New American Paintings, and in 2026 he was a finalist for the Hopper Prize.
