Karen LaMonte was born in 1967 in New York, NY. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1990 and later completed a Fulbright Fellowship in the Czech Republic from 1999 to 2000, where she studied monumental glass casting. In the years that followed, she received several major honors, including the Biennial Award from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation in 2001 and the UrbanGlass Award for New Talent in Glass in 2002. She participated in the Japan–United States Friendship Commission and NEA Creative Artists Exchange Fellowship Program in 2006, and in 2009 took part in the Joint Artist-in-Residence Program between the Corning Museum of Glass and the Kohler Arts Center. In 2015, she received the Master of the Medium Award from the James Renwick Alliance, and in 2018 she returned to the Corning Museum of Glass for the Corning Incorporated Specialty Glass Residency. She currently lives and works in Prague, Czech Republic.
